Regulation (EU) 2024/1257 (Euro 7) on type-approval of motor vehicles and engines

Published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 8 May 2024. Applies to new M1 and N1 types from 29 Nov 2026 and to all new M1 and N1 vehicles from 29 Nov 2027; trucks and buses (M2, M3, N2, N3) from 29 May 2028 for new types and 29 May 2029 for all new vehicles. What is new: emissions must be met over the whole vehicle life, on-board emissions monitoring (NOx, particles, NH3), battery ageing monitoring for vehicles with traction batteries, tyre abrasion brought into scope (C1 tyres from 1 Jul 2028); the brake particle limit will be set later by a delegated act.

EPA proposes delaying the Tier 4 schedule for light- and medium-duty vehicles

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposes keeping Tier 3 for model years 2027 and 2028 and returning to Tier 4 from model year 2029. The fleet-average NMOG+NOx for light-duty vehicles is 30 mg/mile in 2027 and 2028, then 21 mg/mile in 2029. Comments were due by 6 Jul 2026. This is a proposal and was not in force at the time of the document; TO BE CHECKED: outcome after public comment.
